June 2017

From Fr. Ross…
We celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the birth of the Church, on Pentecost Sunday. Symbols for the day include fire, wind and doves – none of which are particularly predictable, yet full and energy and sometimes beautiful.

We are familiar with the story of a frightened group of followers who became courageous, risk-taking leaders. Over the centuries, the Church has experienced many times when the immediate context would seem to demand that we batten down the hatches and hope to survive. In those times the Holy Spirit breathes new ideas or fresh energy or unexpected passion into our faith communities.
Each time this happens the church looks different than it did before, and we grieve the loss of what was familiar. In these times God’s Spirit does not leave us orphaned, but leads us on into a new part of our history built on all that has gone before.
This year, our Bishop, the Right Reverend John Chapman, is calling on the Anglican congregations in our part of the diocese to explore new ways of working together that enrich our ministry and are sustainable in our current context. You will be hearing more about a concept with the working title of ‘Area Parish’ that includes several congregations being served by a team of clergy and sharing a variety of ministry programs spread across those congregations and their facilities.
We pray with confidence that God’s Holy Spirit will continue to be with us and lead us – and our Bishop – as we discern and try new ways of being an active Christian presence in our communities.
Sabbatical Leave
Reverend Andrea’s leave will be June 4 – August 8, 2017.
We pray God’s blessings on her during
her time away/time of renewal.
Red is for Pentecost!!
When you are out buying red geraniums for your garden, please remember to pick up one or two pots for our
Pentecost Sunday celebration on June 4th.
Last year we had a great bunch of them for the Pentecost service
which then were used as part of the landscaping for the summer.
Don’t forget to wear red on June 4th!
