January 2017

From Rev Andrea…

Dear friends,

During this Season of Epiphany, the light of Christ continues to shine brightly into each of our hearts, and we are called to reflect that light back into the world.  And it is so much easier to do together!

These coming months we will be sharing the light of Christ in many different ways and with many different people. I know you will want to be part of these events so keep reading this newsletter…and don’t hesitate to speak with me if you would like to be a leader of something or the organizer or the participant…we all have our way of sharing Christ’s love.

Shalom,

Rev Andrea+

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Ecumenical Service, 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25
@ St. James’ Church, Manotick.
This year we join once again with other churches in the area to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with an ecumenical service which has been
prepared by Christians in Germany.

The theme this year focuses on reconciliation through the love of Christ as a wellspring of life within the Church and as the source for our common witness in the world.

Please plan to join Christians of other traditions as we celebrate and pray for unity in our diversity.

Rev. Andrea is looking for Readers for this service.
If you are able to help please contact Sam in the church office.
Sabbatical Leaves

As mentioned in our December newsletter, both our clergy – Father Ross and Reverend Andrea – qualify for a Sabbatical Leave in 2017.
To provide the least amount of disruption to the parish
while providing this necessary time of renewal:
Fr. Ross is currently away and will return on Tuesday, February 28; Reverend Andrea’s leave will be June 7 – August 7, 2017.
We pray God’s blessings on them during their time away.

Building Our Faith

The premise behind this new program is: Everyone needs a safe place to explore and talk about their faith.
At St. James we hope to introduce that kind of an experience for our youth – a purposely- planned series of events that provide an opportunity to explore the extent of our Christian tradition, to ask questions and express doubts, and to discover what they truly believe.
We are calling this new program ‘Building Our Faith’. Our expectation is that this program will replace our current ‘Confirmation Class’ and ‘Confirmation Plus’ with an ongoing faith formation opportunity that any youth can join at any time. If a person has participated in the monthly meetings for two years, then they will be confirmed when the Bishop next visits us if they so wish. Some will be at the end of the two-year cycle, some will be in the middle; each will be confirmed and each will be expected to finish the cycle. Whether you hope your youth will be confirmed the next time the Bishop is here, or they were confirmed in the last two classes, we hope they will want to continue to explore the Christian faith with us.
Our next gathering will be Sunday January 15th, from 11:30-1:00 pm for youth between the ages of 12-17. Lunch will be provided by one of the families
# Limitless, St James Youth
We are the new youth group and if you are between the ages of 12-17 you are welcome to join us for food, fun and fellowship in Tomkins Hall from 6 – 8 p.m. every second Wednesday evening and usually one Friday evening a month for a Pizza and Games night.
We will meet Wednesday January 18,  6-8pm, in Tomkins Halls for food, friendship and conversations.
Pizza and Games night will be Friday January 27, 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. in Tomkins Hall.
