From Fr. Ross…
What a GiFT!

Four years ago this fall we were just beginning our Growing in Faith Together campaign.

Our target was $441,500 – to support the ministry plans of the Ottawa Diocese ($146,500); to expand the ministry capacity of our local parish ($180,00); and to refresh our church building facilities ($105,000).

The response was enthusiastic and we pledged well over our target ($502,000), including some bequests which we hope not to collect for some time. The faithful fulfilment of those pledges has made possible ministry that we now take for granted at St. James.

Every time Rev. Andrea responds to a pastoral care call, or gathers seniors together for lunch and fellowship, or meets with our Children’s Ministries coordinator, Kelly Ellis, or helps a young family prepare for baptism, your GiFT contributions are at work.

The 10% designated specifically for new ministry and outreach programs has already helped fund our local refugee sponsorship program, the diocesan Community Ministries, our seniors’ program, and the program for autistic students at a local school. Over the next 18 months we will notice an increase in activity from this part of our GiFT fund.

From the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa’s portion of the GiFT fund we have received back support for our SupperMan cooking program and pilot funding for the Youth Internship Program, a St James initiative benefitting the whole diocese.

Our administration space has been more efficiently structured for our current use and we are in the process of upgrading the kitchen facilities to better serve our ministry groups and the community.

All of this is a direct result of your generosity. So as you write your annual contribution cheque for GiFT or see the monthly deductions leave your bank account, please know that you are making ministry possible. There is still work to be done, so be encouraged that as you continue to fulfill your GiFT pledges the work of Rev. Andrea will continue, more funds will be available to other ministry and outreach programs of the parish, and our facilities will match our ministry needs.

At this Thanksgiving season I give thanks for the ongoing generosity and support for ministry here at St James.

Opportunities to Give…

Christmas Market
I know, “It’s not even Thanksgiving yet” but that is how much time and thought is put into our largest Fundraiser at St. James.
The date is Saturday December 3, same day as Olde Fashioned Christmas in Manotick.
Please mark it on your calendar so that you can bring your family and friends out for some fun and tasty treats.
This year we will have lots of tasty new food items to purchase in our Christmas Market.
We might also be asking for an hour or two of help here and there. Watch for further exciting updates.
