Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. During some Ash Wednesday services, the priest will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers.  The solemn proceedings that occur on Ash Wednesday bring the focus back to the sacrifice of Christ and the mission of the Church.
