May 2014
From Rev. Andrea…

Dear friends:

Summer is upon us…a time of rest and relaxation…and dreaming.

As you lie at the beach, or in your hammock in the woods, I’d like to invite you to reflect on this question…

“In this time and this neighbourhood,

what is God’s dream for this church?”

As we ask these questions of ourselves, God’s vocation for our beloved community will become increasingly clear. Our shared work will be a shining beacon calling us to that abundant place where gifts are offered and received and all are delighted.

Praying for God’s call to us all,

Rev Andrea+

F.A.I.T.H. Youth Group Car Wash – Saturday June 14th

What a great gift idea for Father’s Day – a nice clean car! Our amazing group of youth are doing something VERY special for this car wash, their last CLAY (Canadian Lutheran & Anglican Youth) fundraising event. As you know by now, the youth group is heading off to the conference in Kamloops B.C. this August. They have already raised enough funds to attend this conference and they unanimously decided that all proceeds from their last fundraiser will be used
to help other kids who would love to go but cannot afford the cost! Please show our kids how proud we are of this incredible act of kindness! The organizers of the CLAY Conference have already been advised of this offer and below is an excerpt from an email the youth received from the Registrar:
“Thank you SO MUCH for your generous offer to help out another group! I was just so excited to read your email this morning, and it’s really stayed with me all day. This is exactly the kind of community that events like CLAY promotes, and I’m so pleased to be a part of facilitating it!”
Tell your friends and family about this car wash – it will be a gift that will keep on giving!
Helping Hrvoje’s Family
An educational trust fund has been established for Hrvoje’s sons, Krisjan, Stefen and Davor and our parish wants to support that because we knew Hrvoje as a man who loved learning and teaching. If anyone wishes to contribute to the fund, please make your donation payable to St. James Anglican church, clearly marking it “Peric Family Trust Fund”. Funds will be collected until Sunday June 1st and charitable receipts will be available for individual donations. Contact Sam if you have any questions.

Gifts to the Community…

Bales for the North – A Huge Success:

Thank you very much to everyone who contributed items and dollar donations to the Bales for the North. This was St. James’ most successful year ever. We packed 13 bags valued at over $3,000. Thanks to the craft group for making the Mother’s Bags, and to the 31 people who filled them. Thank you to Frances Huddleson and Heather Brophy for your help with the pricing and packing, and a big thank you to Heather for delivering the bags to St. Columba’s.

Annual Garage Sale
Saturday May 3rd was a very busy day at St. James Anglican Church! Yet again donations of all kinds of treasures managed to garner just over $2,000 for our church. Many thanks to all who contributed with time, talent or treasures!
Church Chuckles…

During these serious and troubled times, people of all faiths should remember these four great religious truths:

1. Muslims do not recognize Jews as God’s Chosen People.
2. Jews do not recognize Jesus as the Messiah.
3. Protestants do not recognize the Pope as the leader of the Christian world.
4. Baptists do not recognize each other at the liquor store.
